“The goal is to own the habit of cleaning and end the culture of neglect.”
This is the sentiment expressed by the Student Well-Being Officer (SWBO) Mr. Christian Anthony Valino. Sagradans, he said, must step to the the role of maintaining a conducive and clean learning environment for everyone.
Accordingly, Sagradans across all grade levels unified for a collective cleanup effort within the Montessori De Sagrada Familia (MDSF) elementary community as part of their culminating character formation program themed “Sagradan Earth Keepers” on Friday, March 8.
Inspired by the Japanese principle of daily cleaning known as “Osoji,” homeroom advisers tasked their students with bringing various cleaning materials, ranging from mops and brooms to diffusers, soaps, and sponges before the event.
“Everyone had a stake in the cleanup efforts for cleanliness is not solely a responsibility of a particular group but a shared obligation of the entire community,” Valino said.
“I hope students understand that we will persist in these efforts (cleaning, picking up trash, etc.), even without anyone watching,” he continued.
Adding to the excitement, the Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) officials prepared an engaging dance video to rally all Sagradans to join the cause. The students leaders also roamed around the campus to collect from overflowing trash bins.
Moreover, Angeline Esther Robes, the resident nurse of the elementary department, emphasized the importance of wearing face masks and gloves to take necessary safety precautions during the cleaning sessions.
