Strengthening parent-school partnership, the homeroom advisers of Montessori De Sagrada Familia (MDSF) conducted the first virtual parent-teacher conferences (PTC) this school year, October 15.
The agenda for the PTC included communicating the scholastic rating of the students to their parents, addressing significant concerns of the advisers to the students’ behaviors and academic performance, and soliciting feedback and concerns from the parents for the enhancement of the school’s policies and services.
In the PTC, each parent was given a specific time allotment to talk to their child’s adviser. In connection with this, Ma’am Rowena Jumaquio, the Department Head of the High School Department, emphasized the importance of PTC as a means to support the students in their online classes, especially during this pandemic.
“Such conference is very important especially during the pandemic when teachers are unable to monitor the students all the time. Exchange of feedback from parents and teachers during this conference would enable them to bridge gaps when it comes to child/student supervision,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Sir Edrick Cruz, a Grade 12 adviser, mentioned that PTC helps advisers like him to establish communication with the parents especially of those students with significant concerns in their academics and behaviors.
He expressed, “PTC is beneficial for us the advisers because we can seek the support of the parents of those students with records of late submission, absenteeism, and other concerns. Together with the parents, we are able to set plans to help their children improve and cope with.”
