Montessori De Sagrada Familia absorbed a heart-breaking defeat to Living Angels Christian Academy, 28-35, to settle for second place honors in the elementary division of the 2nd FVE Inter-school Developmental Basketball League at Baliwag Star Arena last September 10.
The Archangels managed to stop a second-half rally from the Squires to complete a well-awaited revenge and reign supreme in the tournament organized by the local government.
Down by as much as 13 points at one point in the game, MDSF pulverized LACA in the third quarter to cut the lead to 22-23.
But LACA knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to earn a four-point advantage entering the final quarter.
The Sagradans refused to give up even before a partisan crowd and kept scoring till the end. They threatened again, 24-26, after Gian Marcelo scored a bucket with 6:35 left in the game, but missed free throws, untimely fouls, and open baskets from LACA put them away for good.
Jerome Quizon, who went toe-to-toe with the taller players of LACA, led the Squires with 11 points, while Mark and Gerwyn Sorsano combined for seven points. Aeron Santos scored three points in the losing effort.
The Squires will see action again in the BulPriSA district meet slated this week, where they will try to reclaim the championship they last had in 2015.
