With the school-wide theme: “Excellence In Our Blood, Sense of Family In Our Hearts”, the pupils comprising the Lower Grade School (LGS) Department of Montessori De Sagrada Familia (MDSF) flaunt their dancing prowess in a show entitled “Throwback Thursday: MDSF Goes Back in Time”, Dec. 19, Thursday at the school gymnasium.
Dressed up in different fashion styles from the past, the Grades 1-3 pupils proved once more that they are not just good in the classrooms but uniquely talented as well as they showcased a series of presentations in the recently concluded 23rd Founding Anniversary of MDSF hosted by Sir Jomar Dela Cruz and T. Jessa Mangulabnan.
Giving a nostalgic vibe to the audience, the show started with opening remarks from the school principal and directress, Mrs. Maria Cristina Santos-Silamor. After which, the Grade 3 pupils kicked off the show as they performed using the hits of the 1970s. The thirds graders danced to the disco music of VST & Co., Tina Turner, Gloria Stefan, Village People, and other 70’s icons. They also showcased dance numbers inspired from the musical hits Grease and Mamma Mia.
On the other hand, the Grade 2 pupils took the Sagradan families a step back to the 1980s as they moved and grooved through the music of the retro sounds. Inspired from the 80’s hit game Mario Bros., and music icons such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Whitney Houston, the second graders added a bunch of throwback vibes and a trip down memory lane as they stomped their feet, clapped their hands, and swayed their hips through the music that are familiar to their parents’ ears.
Furthermore, the cute and lovely Grade 1 pupils did not fail the whole MDSF community as they independently performed various dance acts inspired from the hit songs of the 1990s. A wave of nostalgia swept over the audience when the first graders started to dance to the biggest hits of the biggest boybands of the 90’s. Without any hesitations, they confidently gave their own interpretation of the various dance and music.
After the performances from each section of the LGS Department, the Assistant Principal of the Elementary Department, Mrs. Maria Carmela Santos-Ong gave a speech of thanks to the people behind the success of the said event. Moreover, she emphasized the core value of sense of family in the said celebration.
The show ended with a song number from the whole LGS pupils headed by Akisha Singh, Tyler Velasco, and Kaitlyn Repking. The community song number accentuated and magnified the importance and love of a family to everyone.
As the pupils waved their strips of metallic foil and sang their heart out through the song “Family is Forever”, the whole MDSF gymnasium was filled with smiles, laughter, and love as parents proudly watched their sons and daughters.
Indeed, sense of family is in every Sagrdan’s heart.
