Armed with its mighty pen, The Sagradan grabbed the spot as one of the best student publications in the Philippines during the 2018 Gawad Dyornalismo of the Asia-Pacific Awards Council, Inc. & Center for the Promotion of Campus Journalism, Inc. last May 26 at Hotel Dominique, Tagaytay City.
The official Secondary English newspaper of Montessori De Sagrada Familia hailed as the outstanding High School Campus Publication of the Philippines after being adjudged in specific awards per section in the News Page, Editorial Page, Feature Page, Science & Technology Page, Sports Page and Page Layout.
According to Mr. Vhon Joseph C. Solomon, school paper advisers, “We felt surprised yet very honored to be nominated and eventually landed winning the award. We’re very thankful for the recognition given to our campus publication. It is indeed very fulfilling to come up with this rare achievement, and it is because of the collaborative effort of the entire organization,” he said.
GD Oustanding Student Publication is given to those who have exemplary performance in coming up with factual, fair, scholarly and well-written articles, balance opinions and desirable page layout both in elementary and secondary schools. The said award honors the school and its hardworking editorial staff for their commitment to serve as the voice of the student body and school community in striving excellence in the field of campus journalism.
The event was graced by all the awardees from different regions across the country during the Awards Nights of Gawad Dyornalismo 2018 with the theme, “The role of School Newspapers in the promotion of ASEAN Integration and Inclusive Education.”
