Edwyn Anaiah Tan, a Grade Three pupil of Montessori De Sagrada Familia soared at the top spot (First Place) and bested other contestants in the Spelling Bee during the Bulacan Private Schools’ Association (BulPriSA) Academic Event held at Living Christian Academy, Sept.19.
“It was really when preparations met luck,” her coach, Mrs. Jennilyn Carpio affirmed. According to Mrs. Carpio, “without intense preparation mentally, and socially, there could never be luck. Luck struck them when words they have painstakingly studied appeared in the spelling list, she added.
Tan’s mental discipline was tested and challenged through proper mind setting. “I told Anaiah to relax and to just focus on memorizing the words I have prepared for her. Goal setting also came with the training. I even told her not to give in to the pressure, and just enjoy the experience,” Mrs. Carpio recalled.
The coach herself admitted that the time was limited but maximizing them by focusing on the goal—to ace the spelling bee with confidence helped Anaiah to strive harder for excellence.
“For sure, Anaiah’s parents also did their part,” Mrs. Carpio added. Tan’s quest is not yet over though, for this Sagradan pupil will compete for the 2018 BulPriSA Provincial Meet this October.
