Montessori De Sagrada Familia, known for its programs and activities that foster the development of physical and motor skills among its learners held a summer basketball clinic in cooperation with One Basketball Center for Coaches and Players at the school’s gymnasium.
Sagradans and students from other schools joined the said clinic and underwent a series of trainings that focused on basketball fundamentals. In order to provide a more personalized approach to teaching the said sports, the coaches divided the program into two modules depending on the current ball skills of the players. The 1st module hoped to enhance the player’s ball handling, dribbling, passing and receiving skills while the succeeding module aims to develop more complex skills such as shooting, jump shot, layout and free throw and pivoting while the 2nd module aimed to develop more advanced ball skills.
Last April 30, 2018, almost 50 aspiring basketball champs have completed the summer camp with a culmination day of exciting tournament games and awarding of certificates. A potluck lunch was shared among all the players, families and coaches to celebrate the month-long basketball camp. Families are overwhelmed to see their children’s basketball skills and the new friendships they have found in their co-players.
The coaches of One Basketball center headed by Mr. Joseph Patawaran intend to conduct a year-long after-school basketball club for children aged 7-12 yrs starting June 2018. Another basketball club that will be facilitated in the high school department will be headed by MDSF’s sports coordinator and basketball coach Mr. Emmanuel Santos. Acknowledging that kinesthetics is also a form of intelligence among learners, the creation of the Sagradan Basketball Club envisions to produce highly skilled and well-disciplined homegrown players equipped with characters and values of true champions, ready to soar high in the basketball court and driven by their goals and aspirations in life.
Because of the success of the 1st batch of the One Basketball Club summer clinic, the organizers are set to facilitate its 2nd batch scheduled on May 10, 2018. Old and new players are welcome to join the said program.
