The MDSF Swim Center through the initiative of the Local Government of Baliwag and cooperation of the Baliwag Sports Development Office, Baliwag Tourism Office and Bert Lozada Swim School conducted its first Free Summer Clinic to the young Baliwagenyos. The program aims to teach children the importance of swimming as an essential life-saving skill. MDSF Swim Center and Bert Lozada Swim School always believe that swimming is a skill that can be mastered at any age but is best when taught early on so that one can develop lifelong habits that include fitness and recreation. The actual training was facilitated by the highly trained coaches from Bert Lozada Swim School assisted by the competitive Sagradan Vikings, the official varsity swim team of Montessori De Sagrada Familia. The coaches also gave a discussion on what to do before and during the occurrence of a flood.
One of the highlights of the program was the inspirational talk of the Jerome and Joshua Nelmida, identical twins who were born with visual impairment. But despite their condition, they still pursued chasing their dream to become triathletes and to compete in Paralympic events. The twin brothers together with their mother shared their story on how they were able to overcome the difficulties that came with having no vision and how they motivated themselves and worked hard to achieve their goals. Before the actual swim class started, the Nelmida twins showcased their skills in swimming– something truly inspired and captured the hearts and minds of all the participants.
The free swimming clinic is part of the LGU’s series of Summer Saya Workshops for all young Baliwaguenyos who aim to have a productive school break. The summer workshop is composed of different sports such as swimming, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, dancing, and singing. The MDSF Swim Center pledges its support to the programs of the LGU Baliwag in promoting the value of sports and opens its doors to the community with its various year-round offerings such as learn to swim classes, walk-in swim sessions, varsity and swim club trainings.
